Countdown to Christmas

December 23rd, 2009

I can’t believe Nora’s third Christmas is the day after tomorrow. We have been having lots of fun getting ready for Santa and Nora is getting quite excited as well as we are. I was looking back at Christmas pictures from last year, it’s so amazing to see how much she has grown and matured. We only thought she was big stuff last year. But this year….look out, Nora is in full effect and knows all about Christmas and the goodies that come along with it. She’s already accidentally found my secret hiding spot for some of her gifts, obviously I need to get better at hiding gifts from such a big curious girl. The other day I hear her screaming from the back of the house “mommy! mommy! come here!” I ran back there thinking she found a spider or something that scared her but no, instead she was screaming in excitement because she got a peek of her new Wubbzy doll. Thankfully she didn’t see Wubbzy’s friend Daisy who she requested from Santa along with more books and puzzles. Although I think she’s too young still to wonder why Santa’s gift was here before Christmas but we’ve learned to never under estimate Nora’s smarts, because she has quite a lot of them. :)

Nora tried on her Christmas dress last week and it made her so excited she put on her boa and got dancing fever. Nora is one dancing, singing little cutie pants. I’ve been counting up all the songs she sings word for word, she’s up to at least 15 songs and the list is still growing with her adding Christmas songs to her repatwar. Yesterday she made up her first original song which I’m sure will fast become a greatest hit. “Turn around and touch your knees, I love singing my ABC’s!”

(sorry for the darkness of the video, it was taken in at night the car on the way to see Christmas lights)

Nora is doing great…. eating good, overall having good BM’s, gaining good weight and growing tall. I haven’t measured her in a while but I know she’s gaining length by the way a lot of her pants have turned into highwaters all of a sudden. We are very happy with her progress and are looking forward to starting off the new year, I have a feeling it’s going to be the best one yet. :)

Nora Photo Site

December 3rd, 2009

We have added a new blog category (on the left side menu) to include a Nora photo site for those of you who just can’t get enough of our precious sweetheart! I will continue to post pictures on this blog but we take so many more pictures than I post and we wanted to have a separate site to be able to share more pics with friends and family. Enjoy! :)

So Very Thankful

November 30th, 2009

This Thanksgiving was full of all of the things we are so very thankful for…, love, sharing, and of course Nora! My parents, grandparents and brother were so sweet and drove down from KY to join us. My sister and her family were also planing to join us but my niece Marin got sick at the last minute. :( We hope you feel all better soon sweetheart!

We only had a few days with my family so we made sure to make the best of our time together and had an adventure packed visit. Nora took her very first boat ride on the Wakulla River. She had a blast looking over the side of the boat to see alligators, manatees, turtles, fish and lots of different kinds of river birds.

But as impressive as all those animals were, a little brown squirrel gave her the most entertainment. He was burying an acorn for the winter and Nora couldn’t stop laughing at it’s frantic digging and pounding the acorn into the ground. She was laughing so hard my grandparents heard her laughing from all the way across the park.

Thanksgiving dinner was extra special this year, not only for the great company but it was the first year Nora got to eat a real turkey dinner and the same menu as the rest of us. Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans (hulled) and pumpkin pie made with goat milk just for Nora by her sweet Mammie, yum! And it was even better that her tummy handled all of it great. :)

After we stuffed ourselves we took Nora to walk around and see the Christmas lights at Dorothy B. Oven park. Nora is definitely going to enjoy Christmas this year more than ever and is already getting very excited about it.

It was so great for my family to be able to join in the Nora fun. She is such a special little girl who we will forever be so very thankful for.

Happy 90th Birthday Mamma Tom!

November 14th, 2009

This week was Nora’s great-grandmother’s 90th birthday. The family celebrated Mamma Tom’s special day last Sunday at Montana’s Aunt and Uncle’s house. Thankfully everyone was cold free and we were able to join in the celebration. It was the largest family function that Nora has been to yet and it was a wonderful time had by all to say the least. Nora rarely gets the chance to play with kids her own age, or any other age for that matter, so for her to be able to get to play with four of her little cousins ranging from 1 1/2 – 6 years old was awesome. Nora is quite the shy girl so we were curious to see how she would react around so many people but after a few minutes she warmed right up and let loose on the swing set.

Nora got so tickled watching Lucus and Matthew rolling down the hill….

The cousins took a break from swinging to go on a little tour to the “haunted shed” guided by sweet girl Olivia….

Then back for more swinging!

I didn’t think we’d ever get Nora off the swing set but Olivia lured her away with picking flowers and a stroll down the sidewalk.

Spending time with family is so very special and is something that we don’t get to do as much as we would like to. But thankfully sweet memories made in one afternoon can keep the warmth in our hearts looking forward to next time.

Happy Birthday Mamma Tom! We love you!

A Heavy Heart

November 9th, 2009

Our hearts are heavy tonight for the Owens family. Gavin passed away last night after a very long fight. His passing is overwhelmingly heartbreaking but his family is finding peace in knowing that his suffering is over and that now he is in a better place.

I never thought that I could feel so much love for a little boy and his family who I never met. Gavin and his family are amazing in their love and strength and they have forever touched our hearts. Please pray, send positive thoughts, or whatever you do, to his parents and his sister Madison to help them through their time of sorrow and healing.

Another Butterfly Princess Halloween

October 31st, 2009

Nora is always full of surprises. For weeks she has been dead set on being “Rosie kitty cat clown princess” (from the cartoon Caillou) for Halloween. But when it came time to put on her costume she wanted nothing to do with the clown and cat part of the costume. You’re allowed to do that when you’re 2 1/2. :) So she decided to grab her tiara and butterfly wings from last year and emerged as the Butterfly Princess once again. Humm, I’m seeing a pattern here, princess is a strong common denominator….that’s our girl.

Flash back to last Halloween…..look how much our little butterfly has grown…

We didn’t take Nora door to door for a couple of reasons, 1) flu germs and 2) we didn’t want to tease her with collecting a bunch of candy that she can’t eat anyways. But none the less she still had a great time on a special Nora trick-or-treat route. The first stop was to our super sweet neighbors Chrys and Owen. They are wonderful neighbors who are well aware of Nora’s condition so they had a special bag of toys just for Nora.

Then it was off to the Nora’s grandparents who both had Nora friendly treats waiting for her. An organic, sugar-free, gluten-free lollipop may sound like something that would taste like cardboard but surprisingly they are very tasty and Nora loves them.

halloween-2009-041.JPG Jackpot!

We gave her a few before Halloween to make sure she would do ok with them so she KNEW what she as getting.

We hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween!

Thank you Nora

October 27th, 2009

Nora must have snuck on the computer and read my last blog post and thought that sleeping through the night sounded like a good idea. I hope I don’t jinx us by writing this but Nora has slept through the night without waking up for a bottle for the last four nights in a row. Not sure what prompted such sound sleeping but we’ll take it! Thank you Nora! :)

(I started typing this last night and didn’t get a chance to post it and guess what…..I jinxed us. But that’s ok, we still appreciate the four nights we got.)

Nora had a big adventure over the weekend down at the St. Marks coast. She has been to the beach a couple of times before but never wanted to even get one toe in the water. But this time she was ready……really, really ready! We went down there to see the annual monarch butterfly migration but Nora was only interested in the water. Thankfully it was sunny and warm enough to wade in the water. I think she would have gone for a full out swim had we let her.

Nora had a blast checking out all the sea life in the shallows.
We even found a seahorse!

Leave it to Nora to find a way to have fun with a medical mask. She is the queen of putting funny things on her head these days.
0101.JPG 0151.JPG

Even though she’s wearing it a little different from the norm, Nora’s mask goes right along with her sweet, caring nature and nursing skills. Last week as I was cooking I dropped a pan lid on my toe and hollered out “ouch!”  Nora responded “are you ok mommy?” then started walking towards the medical supply drawer and said “here, let me get you a band aide.” That’s my smart, sweet girl. :)

Today is Nora’s 30 month birthday so she is now officially a full 2 and 1/2. Happy Birthday Nora, we love you!
