The removal of most of Nora’s small intestine has resulted in her being diagnosed with Short Bowel Syndrome. Since she cannot absorb nutrients through her intestines Nora is put on TPN (Total Parental Nutrition) by IV to keep her going. This drug will keep her alive but is very hard on the liver and other organs.
