Nora Kaylee Thomas was born at 2:43 p.m. by emergency C-section weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. Her small intestine had kinked in three places cutting off the blood supply while she was still in the womb. The lack of blood supply caused the intestinal tissue to die and 95% of her small intestine was removed. The doctors did not have much hope for her survival. Her small intestine was so damaged that the surgeon contemplated not doing the surgery at all because he did not expect her to make it. Thankfully he knew that we would want any time possible with our little girl and did the surgery. The day Nora was born was the best and worst day of our lives. But with each passing hour of our little girl showing her strength our hope grew.

I’m a new reader, I hope you receive this comment. I was reading the first post, as an active reader of short gut blogs. Nora had the same exact problem as I had at birth. I also had most of my intestine’s removed. I lived in the hospital and survived on TPN for years after birth. I will be praying for your family and Nora. I’m now 23 years of age, a college graduate, I can eat more than a small army, and love hearing of others that are surviving from this very unfortunate medical issue. Please feel free to contact me.
